Several board games are in development at Durnin Designs. The first three will be included in the Adventure Calendar when it arrives, but they are too good not to put out there right away.
At the playtest session on Saturday, July 20th at Game Point in Sechelt I debuted the new version of Good Elf Bad Elf, now called Yachego, with the professional prototype we will use for the play through video and box cover. Here are before and after pictures of the manufacturing process for the new board and tokens.
Many thanks to Doug Brown, Valerie Durnin and Mike Essex for their excellent work on the prototype and to Game Point for providing a venue to try it out.
The three minigames as they looked on July 21, 2024. Which one draws your eye?
Christopher was nice enough to playtest my game and write down his comments. Every playtest makes the game that much better.
It felt great to play. Othello meet Go/Chess. There is a fair amount of strategy and a good amount of luck — Christopher
Satisfying (to play). Reminds me of checkers with a Risk type battle — Robin
Turn the enemy your colour and escape in Yachego, a game for two players. Something like chess, something like go, something like checkers and full of surprises.
Don’t let the left hand know what the right hand is doing! This single player game is quick and easy. An excellent introduction to polyhedral dice, it is also an addictive solo pleasure.
Help the Pegasus escape from the dragon! A game of flight in more than one sense, this twist on the classic roll and move game turns that on its head: move and roll.
I helped Ted with some play testing of mini games, the first one was a simple yet fun mini game of piece flipping excitement. I would give both these mini games 5 stars. — James Sopotyk
The rules are easy to follow. It’s like chess and checkers combined and I like those games. – Elliott B
Easy, fun, yet involves strategy. Similar to checkers but funner! – Sean B
Fast and easy to learn – Sarah Mazurek
Solution meets chill dice game with fantasy vibes. Counting game with some basic math strategies. Enjoyed! –Brodie D’Angio
The second game was very much needed especially for today’s younger crowds to tabletop gaming. It was an introduction to polyhedron dice. In which you roll one set of dice against another. It was fun and surprising, not knowing how the rolls would end up in the end I would give both these mini games 5 stars. I can’t wait to show my 6 and 7 yr old children the dice game it will be a very intriguing and engaging game to watch and see as they learn one of my loves!! — James Sopotyk
A bit like playing with a fidget spinner but you actually have to use your brain a little bit — Jacob Scow
Durnin Designs dice games are fun, based in story, and are a great way to enjoy time with family and friends. I was lucky to play the pre-release versions of Dice Swap, Dragon Chase and Good Elf Bad Elf, and am looking forward to buying all three when they come out. They will be great additions to our games collection. Very well designed!
Andrew Bradley
It looks so simple but it can get fairly complicated. As a minigame it works well. — Jena Lohrbach
I liked the chase between the pegasus and the dragon. It keeps you in suspense. Fun, exciting, complex — Coen Loverock
