Durnin Designs makes stories, games and RPG modules

The gaming table in action during playtesting

Good Elf Bad Elf is now Yachego

The Adventure Calendar is meant to have three games in it. One of them is popular enough that it will be released as a stand-alone game. In the advent calendar it will be called Good Elf Bad Elf and tie in with the main story told over 24 days. Playtesting indicated that the tie-in detracted from the game as people wanted to know more of the lore of the story. The right place for the lore is the calendar; telling too much of that story in the stand alone game seems to detract from the enjoyment of both. So the game will now be called Yachego and will not have any story elements. It is an abstract game for two players, something like Yahtzee, something like chess or checkers, something like Go.

Investors Welcome

Yachego is a two player abstract game. It will be a great addition to the same shelf as checkers, backgammon and cribbage. After a lot of research, it appears that a Kickstarter or any sort of crowdfunding structure is not suitable for it so I am looking at a more traditional Make it and Sell it approach. A module called Museum Piece is ready to start beta testing. Set in a museum exhibit, it is a playable classic locked room mystery. It is written to be compatible with any role-playing game system, even those that are not fantasy-themed. Click the button for a teaser.

The Adventure Calendar is now a project for 2025. It’s scope is ambitious and it will require investors just to get it to the Kickstarter stage. It will included elements of serial storytelling, board games and role-playing.

In order to enhance the profile of Durnin Designs as a creator of stories, board games and role-playing game aids, it has been decided to release a complete product in each category. Accordingly, there is a now game, a novella and a module completely written and in the editing and prototype stages. How Shrugg became

The father timidly approached the birthing bed. He was uneasy despite having visited many times before.

“Momma! What are we going to name this one?”

“I don’t know. We already used up all the good names.”

Father went out to face the well-wishers. When they asked they boy’s name, he eloquently raised his shoulders to his ears.

Mrs. Slugwort was appalled: “His name is Shrug?”

And so it was.

Where the trouble started

“You better put the Wand of Many Wishes back or daddy will be furious.”

“It’s going to be my wand someday! I can play with it if I want!”

“You are such a twerp! I wish I didn’t have to look after you. Now give me the wand!”

“No. I won’t and I wish this wand was where no one can find it!”

There was a flash of light and then the wand was gone.

“We are in so much trouble.”
