Here it is, my very first blog post. In order to make this happen, I have spent months setting up this website and making it look right. It still doesn’t really but it’s the best I can do. I have installed and uninstalled many plugins, themes and widgets trying to get it to look nice and also be accessible. Softaculous, Pagelayer, Elementor, Royal Elementor, Elementor Pro, Jetpack, Akhismet, Super Cache, blah blah blah. And in the end, I have come up with…using the native WordPress app. It’s buried underneath all the hype. l am deeply unhappy to have spent so much time trying out free addons that didn’t really work unless one upgrades to the Pro version or similar. This is the famous monetization of the World Wide Web and it is the opposite of easy, the opposite of convenient, and the opposite of civil. The worst offender in this area was WPForms. You cannot do anything without an upsell prompt appearing in WPForms.

So I can finally say something and what I have to say is, “I could have been writing instead”. It is so easy to lose focus on what is important. From now on, I will write first and everything else later. Of course, that is what I said I would do in the first place so we’ll see how it goes but it is a symptom of something else that happens a lot: The world insists I have to do business before I can create. I found this in music, too, when I was attempting to make some headway there.

I have a fantasy about a world in which the opposite is true: no business can be conducted until an original piece of art is produced. Want to make a deal? Compose a song first. Want to make a cold call? It must be preceded by a poem. Want to do a big-time merger of two companies to dominate the market and squeeze out all the little guys? Paint a triptych. Well. Enough of my twisted fantasies. Until next time.
